Travel to La Plagne by Train
- There are trains available to take you to the French Alps, with – normally - only one change in Paris. Services depart from London St.Pancras
- The main advantage of using the train service is that you get closer to the mountains and avoid the potential delays from disrupted flights and motorway congestion - especially during school holiday periods or adverse weather
- Seats made available for booking from 4x months before travel
- Train journey times approx 10hrs-11hrs, departing from 6am - 9am
- Booking through the French National carrier seems to give the most availability and range of tickets.
- You should be given the option to book to and from Aime (La Plagne) as this is the closest station to La Plagne. If, however, you have tickets booked through to Bourg St.Maurice you should be able to get off in Aime, check when booking. Aime is a little closer (10 minutes) and train tickets and Transfer costs are a little bit cheaper. Get bags ready in Moutiers - as they don't allow much time to get off in Aime!
- All trains go through Paris and you are required to change stations from Gare du Nord to Gare du Lyon. This can be done by Metro (approx €2.50pp) or by taxi/ Uber (approx €25 for up to 4). Journey time normally within 30minutes.
- For the return, you should be able to get on in Aime. However, if you are concerned about having enough time on the return, you can book from Bourg St.Maurice as that is where the train starts it’s journey and you will have more time to find your seat and arrange your luggage.
- Transfers can be arranged from/to the train station in Aime (40mins away) / Bourg St. Maurice (50mins away). See Transfers.
- Adult prices for the train, 2nd Class, from approx €150-€250 depending on dates and availability. There are often 1st class options with rates around 2x 2nd Class rates.
